The Mt. Zion Prep Academy Warriors waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They took down Oxon Hill 61-45.
Mt. Zion Prep Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nyla McFadden led the charge by scoring 16 points. Jniya Weaver was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Oxon Hill lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Damia Worthy, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Worthy is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Williams, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Mt. Zion Prep Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. As for Oxon Hill, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
Mt. Zion Prep Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Paul VI at 4:00 p.m. on January 13th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Paul VI is ranked 12th in Virginia, while Mt. Zion Prep Academy is ranked 11th in Maryland). As for Oxon Hill, they will be playing at home against Friendly at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Friendly focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Thursday.
