Even though the Neville Tigers scored an imposing 55 points on Friday, the Peabody Warhorses still came out on top. Peabody snuck past Neville with a 59-55 victory. Given Peabody's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Neville is ranked 47th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Peabody to victory were Rashad Mitchell and Justin Burns. Mitchell scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Burns dropped a double-double on 22 points and 18 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Mathews, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Peabody's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-3. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 32 points. As for Neville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.
Peabody won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Huntington at 4:00 p.m. on January 13th. As for Neville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Monroe at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
