There's no place like home for the McAllen Memorial Mustangs, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They blew past Valley View 60-7 at home. Given McAllen Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 595th, while Valley View is ranked 1440th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
McAllen Memorial's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eva Villarreal, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Karly Bazan was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
McAllen Memorial pushed their record up to 21-12 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Valley View, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-17.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McAllen Memorial will take on Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial has now lost 16 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 17. As for Valley View, they will be playing at home against Rowe at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
