Baseball Recap: Northern Extends Winning Streak to Six

Northern waltzed into their match on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on St. Charles with a sharp 18-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won eight contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Nick Barsczewski looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Northern got a massive performance out of Dylan Rice, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Rice a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Miles Halbert, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Northern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Northern's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. As for St. Charles, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Northern has already played their next game, a 14-6 defeat against Chopticon on the 14th. As for St. Charles, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 3-2 victory against Calvert on the 14th.
