Softball Game Preview: Buffalo Bison vs. New Waverly Bulldogs

The Buffalo Bison will head out to take on the New Waverly Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Buffalo will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Buffalo and Westwood meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. Buffalo put the hurt on Westwood with a sharp 18-0 victory. That looming 18-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bison yet this season.

Ella Ortiz was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in February. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Buffalo let Avery Waters and Pari Bharat run wild. Waters scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Bharat scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave Waters a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Cheek, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Buffalo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, New Waverly fell victim to Franklin and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Lions. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Bulldogs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

New Waverly's loss dropped their record down to 3-6-2. As for Buffalo, their record now sits at 5-8.

Buffalo couldn't quite get it done against New Waverly in their previous matchup last Friday as they fell 10-5. Can Buffalo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
