Meanwhile, South Side won against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart on Monday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Rams put the hurt on the Chargers with a sharp 10-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Burgettstown, South Side also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryan Shaw. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Shaw was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cole McCoy was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Andrew Corfield was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.
South Side kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Our Lady of the Sacred Heart only managed seven.
South Side has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Burgettstown, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-7.
South Side's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Burgettstown has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for South Side, though, as they've been averaging only 3.3 strikeouts. Will Burgettstown keep running through batters, or will the Rams buck the trend?
Burgettstown beat South Side 6-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
