After a string of three wins, the Ness City Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. The game between Ness City and St. John wasn't particularly close, with Ness City falling 52-36. While losing is never fun, Ness City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while St. John is ranked 34th).
Ness City's loss came despite strong showings from Tiana Smith and Ashlyn Tillitson. Smith scored 15 points, while Tillitson scored eight points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Smith scored 15 or more points.
Ness City's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-5. As for St. John, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with that win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Ness City won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Wheatland-Grinnell at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Wheatland-Grinnell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 last Tuesday. As for St. John, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Chase at 6:00 p.m. Chase comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
