Softball Recap: Pioneer Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Pioneer came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Benton Central Bison 15-2. Considering the Panthers have won seven contests by more than ten runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Lois Layer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three doubles. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Averi Layer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Beasy, who went 4-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

Pioneer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .622. They are 9-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Pioneer's record is now 11-7. As for Benton Central, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.

Pioneer didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-5 victory against Rensselaer Central on the 10th. As for Benton Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 12-1 loss against Hobart on the 10th.
