Bingham is a perfect 8-0 against Taylorsville since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Miners will take on the Warriors at 11:00 a.m. Bingham's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Taylorsville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Bingham is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Riverton, who was ranked first at the time (Bingham was ranked 15th). The Miners took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Silverwolves on Thursday. The Miners have struggled against the Silverwolves recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Bingham saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zalia Carrillo, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Taylorsville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past Cyprus 8-7. Winning may never get old, but the Warriors sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Aleya Wegner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over 8.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Megan Sterzer was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Taylorsville's record now sits at 12-5. As for Bingham, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bingham has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Taylorsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Bingham was able to grind out a solid win over Taylorsville in their previous matchup back in March of 2021, winning 5-1. Do the Miners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
