The Needles Mustangs put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with an 84-72 victory over Lake Mead Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Needles got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Xavier Russell out in front who went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 38 points and 3 assists. The contest was Russell's third in a row with at least ten points. Luca Walema was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds.
Needles' victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0. As for Lake Mead Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Needles and Virgin Valley will face off at 12:00 p.m. on December 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Virgin Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday. Lake Mead Academy is on the road again on January 6, 2024 and play against Needles at 4:30 p.m. on January 6, 2024.
