The Classical Academy is 8-2 against Elizabeth since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Titans will be playing at home against the Cardinals at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (The Classical Academy 3.9, Elizabeth 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
The Classical Academy came out on top against Lamar on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Titans took their game against the Thunder 9-4.
Elliot Wood and Zach Mediavilla did most of the damage at the plate: Wood got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and two runs, while Mediavilla got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Wood has posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth waltzed into their contest on Saturday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They didn't even let the Panthers on the board, marking their second-straight 10-0 shutout. Give the Cardinals' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.
Brody Aldridge looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Elizabeth let Joey Dome and Walker Blanchard run wild. Dome went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Blanchard went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Carson Jones, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Elizabeth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher in seven consecutive matches.
Elizabeth's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for The Classical Academy, their win bumped their record up to 15-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. The Classical Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Elizabeth struggles in that department as they've averaged .429. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
The Classical Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Elizabeth when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
