The Mayfield Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Solon Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Mayfield put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. They blew past Orange 17-4. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Kameron Sills looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Ellena Baghdasaryan was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Migliorini, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Mayfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Solon gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Shaker Heights with a sharp 11-5 win. The Comets not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17th (when they won 12-2).
Grace Gerhard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Solon let Ali Palsa and Evan Barmen run wild. Palsa went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base and one run, while Barmen went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Alyssa Gerome was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Mayfield and bumps their season record up to 7-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Solon, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-13 record this season.
Mayfield might still be hurting after the 17-1 defeat they got from Solon in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
