Bear Grass Charter is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over Chatham Central. The win was nothing new for Bear Grass Charter as they're now sitting on three straight.
Bear Grass Charter saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Coby Beck, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another was Maddox Tucker, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Falls Lake was able to grind out a solid victory over Northside - Pinetown on Wednesday, taking the game 6-3.
Jacob Watson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Falls Lake is 5-1 when Watson posts eight or more strikeouts, but 6-10 otherwise. Watson was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Kace Obriant and Isaac Smoak did most of the damage at the plate: Obriant went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Smoak went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI Smoak has posted since back in March.
Falls Lake lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
The win got Falls Lake back to even at 11-11. As for Bear Grass Charter, their victory bumped their record up to 19-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bear Grass Charter has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Falls Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Bear Grass Charter skirted past Falls Lake 3-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
