The Scotus Shamrocks just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Archbishop Bergan Knights at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Scotus is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
In what's become a running theme this season, Scotus gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They breezed by Boone Central on the road to the tune of 44-17. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Scotus has posted since December 12, 2023.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Bergan had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 40-26 win over Lincoln Lutheran. Given Archbishop Bergan's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Lincoln Lutheran is ranked 211th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Archbishop Bergan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paige Frickenstein led the charge by scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Frickenstein has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last six times she's played. Summer Bojanski was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Scotus has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Archbishop Bergan, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
Scotus took their win against Archbishop Bergan in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 40-17. The rematch might be a little tougher for Scotus since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
