The Hicksville Aces will face off against the Pettisville Blackbirds at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hicksville will be strutting in after a victory while Pettisville will be coming in after a defeat.
On Thursday, Hicksville needed a bit of extra time to put away Antwerp. They had just enough and edged out the Archers 9-8.
Easton Adams and Brant Langham were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Adams struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Langham tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Adams got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Langham went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That RBI was Adams' first of the season.
In other batting news, Hicksville let Jayden Beverly and Bronson Graber run wild. Beverly went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Graber got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one RBI. Wyatt Bell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Pettisville suffered their closest loss since April 25, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Edon by a score of 4-2.
Like Hicksville, Pettisville also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryan Bishop. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bishop was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double.
Bishop wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rylan Warner, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Pettisville's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Hicksville, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Hicksville was able to grind out a solid win over Pettisville in their previous meeting back in May of 2018, winning 3-0. Do the Aces have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blackbirds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
