Video: Bishop Gorman wins 4A state title See Gaels in action during dominant championship game.Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) matched a high school basketball national record Friday night by winning its ninth consecutive state title, beating Desert Pines (Las Vegas) 65-37 for Nevada's Class 4A championship.
The Gaels (29-3) are ranked No. 15 nationally this week by MaxPreps. This will certainly go down as one of the more dominant title runs for the school as it went 18-0 this season against Nevada competition and thrashed Spanish Springs (Sparks) 67-17 in Thursday's semifinal.
Gorman's run of championships in the Silver State began in 2012. The Gaels also went back-to-back in 2009 and 2010, giving them 11 of the last 12 big school titles in Nevada, 14 in the 2000s and 22 overall dating back to 1962.
Zach Collins, Chase Jeter, Shabazz Muhammad, Charles O'Bannon and Stephen Zimmerman are some of the stars that have helped fuel the record streak for the Sin City program.
Now defunct St. Anthony (Jersey City, N.J.) held the record with nine in a row from 1983 to 1991 under legendary head coach Bob Hurley.
Bishop Gorman has won 14 boys basketball state titles in the 2000s.
