The Academy Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They took a hard 53-38 fall against Colorado Academy. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for The Academy in their matchups with Colorado Academy: they've now lost four in a row.
The Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Trey Boychuk and Gavin Massler. Boychuk scored ten points along with five rebounds and five steals, while Massler scored 16 points. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Lamar, who scored three points.
The Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Colorado Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jason Bratis, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Michael Mckee, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
The Academy's loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-7. As for Colorado Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. The Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Timnath at 7:30 p.m. on January 8, 2024. Colorado Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Stargate School at 7:30 p.m. on January 10, 2024.
