For the first time this season, Cuthbertson will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will face off against the Sun Valley Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Cuthbertson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.1 runs per game this season.
Cuthbertson will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Ardrey Kell on Friday. Everything went Cuthbertson's way against Ardrey Kell as Cuthbertson made off with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.
The result came thanks to Georgia McConnell's shutout, as she gave up just four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Alexis Juhl was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Martens, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Cuthbertson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Sun Valley hadn't done well against Butler recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Sun Valley narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Butler 3-1. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Gretchen Daniel (2028) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kendall Smith (2026), who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Gracyn Hawk (2026) also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Cuthbertson's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Sun Valley, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Sun Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cuthbertson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .514. It's a different story for Sun Valley, though, as they've only averaged .280. Will they be able to contain Cuthbertson's hitters?
Cuthbertson took their victory against Sun Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cuthbertson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
