The Wellington Dukes will head out on the road to take on the Valley Forge Patriots at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wellington has four straight wins, Valley Forge has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Saturday, Wellington was able to grind out a solid win over Vermilion, taking the game 46-35.
Wellington's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Brooke Lehmkuhl, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Gabby Miller, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Miller is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Gundert, who scored eight points along with six assists and five steals.
Meanwhile, Valley Forge was beaten by Holy Name 78-36 on Saturday. Valley Forge has struggled against Holy Name recently, as their game on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Cloe Rzeczycki, who scored five points along with four blocks. Kallie Yeager was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Wellington pushed their record up to 14-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Valley Forge, their loss dropped their record down to 2-19.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wellington have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Valley Forge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
