The Niles North Vikings pushed their score all the way to 60 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Thornton. While losing is never fun, Niles North can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Thornton is ranked third).
It was another big night for Morez Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 17 rebounds for Thornton. Johnson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Meyoh Swansey was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Niles North's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Thornton, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season.
Niles North's road trip will continue as they head out to face Niles West at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. As for Thornton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Thornwood at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
