Coronado had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Lubbock Westerners 13-11. 13 seems to be a good number for the Mustangs as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Coronado got a big performance out of Bodie Pope, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Pope a new career-high. Jaden Lira was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Coronado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in five consecutive games.

Coronado pushed their record up to 19-9 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Lubbock, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-12-1 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Coronado will challenge rival Tascosa at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Lubbock is set to square off against their familiar foe Plainview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
