Baseball Recap: Tolleson Wins Going Away Against Alhambra

Tolleson got themselves on the board against Alhambra on Friday, but Alhambra never followed suit. They blew past the Lions 8-0. Considering the Wolverines have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

DIEGO SERNA tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on JOSE CORRALES, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Tolleson's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6-1 when he doesn't). DIEGO VELAZQUEZ also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Tolleson's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Alhambra, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tolleson will challenge Shadow Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Alhambra, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Alhambra Lions duke it out with Central Bobcats at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
