The North Panola Cougars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They took down Grenada 89-72. Given North Panola's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Grenada is ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Defeat or not, Grenada got some senior leadership from Caleb Howard who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds and Kelton Jones who scored 25 points. Jones scored a full 34.7% of Grenada's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Travis Wilks was another key contributor, scoring six points.
North Panola's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.4 points per game. As for Grenada, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
North Panola will head out on the road to face off against Lewisburg at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Grenada will be home for the holidays to greet Winona at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
