Charlotte is 1-8-1 against Falls City since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Trojans will challenge the Beavers at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Charlotte put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. Everything went their way against D'Hanis as they made off with a 14-5 victory. The game was the first time the Trojans have beaten the Cowboys on their field since April 28, 2015.
Charlotte got a big performance out of Julian Cruz, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave Cruz a new career-high in hits (two). Sean Ramon also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Falls City entered their tilt with Knippa on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Crushers. Considering the Beavers have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Dale Shaffer was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Falls City is undefeated when Shaffer posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tanner Krawietz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Falls City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Knippa only posted an OBP of .348.
The win made it two in a row for Charlotte and bumps their season record up to 8-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Falls City, their record is now 12-8.
Charlotte might still be hurting after the 9-3 loss they got from Falls City in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
