Baseball Recap: Lyons Has No Trouble Against Denver Academy

Lyons was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Denver Academy on Thursday. The Lions blew past the Mustangs 17-2. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Wyatt Fitzgerald made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jake LaCrosse was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Lyons is 6-1 when LaCrosse posts two or more runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Leo Irvin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Lyons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory got Lyons back to even at 8-8. As for Denver Academy, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lyons will face off against Highland at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Denver Academy, they will challenge Arrupe Jesuit at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
