Scioto Valley recap September 17, 2013
Unioto moved up to 517 from 589 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Scioto Valley. The Shermans climbed the ranks as a result of topping Alexander 27-6.
Piketon fell to Minford 58-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Aaron Southworth was a bright spot for the Redstreaks, as he caught 6 passes for 78 yards in the loss.
Devon Brewster provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Piketon lost to the Falcons. He completed 19 passes for 134 yards and also ran for 10 yards.
Nate Mettler was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 137 yards on 19 carries as Zane Trace lost to Minford. Colin Swackhammer also contributed to the rushing game with 87 yards on the ground.
Erique Hosley put up the best numbers in passing as Unioto bested the Spartans. He had a total of 5 completions for 93 yards. Hosley's favorite target this week was Kyle Strange, who caught 2 passes for 37 yards.
Southworth was the best receiver in the league this week as the Redstreaks fell to Brent Daniels' team. Stefan Thacker helped Piketon's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 25 yards.
Piketon's Brewster and Southworth have formed a dream team this season, leading Scioto Valley in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Brewster has thrown for 333 yards this season, while Southworth has 12 catches for 137 yards. The Pioneers' Mettler leads the league in rushing yards with 278.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Jerry Hudnell's team takes on Paint Valley. The Shermans' offense has recorded 66 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Bearcats have permitted only 14 on the year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Unioto takes on Paint Valley. At the moment, the Shermans are in third, while Pete Hollon's team is in first.
Unioto made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,269 from 11,017. The improvement came about via a 27-6 victory over Alexander last week.
