Fountain Inn is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will venture away from home to square off against the Laurens Raiders at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Last Thursday, Fountain Inn made easy work of Travelers Rest and carried off an 11-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Fury.
Halle Baker tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, Bethany Brown and Zoey Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Brown scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Williams scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, Williams posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Peyton Kinsler also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Fountain Inn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .360 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Laurens made easy work of J.L. Mann on Wednesday and carried off a 13-7 victory. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Carly Edwards was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing six bases while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Trevino, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Laurens now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Fountain Inn, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fountain Inn hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Laurens struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fountain Inn came up short against Laurens in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 12-8. Can Fountain Inn avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
