The Jackson Academy Eagles will face off against the South Choctaw Academy Rebels at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Jackson Academy turned things around against Sparta Academy on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 20-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four games by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Bradford Harrell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Harrell was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Tessa Elmore and Bethany Clayton did most of the damage at the plate: Elmore went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Clayton went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Clayton also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Garris, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Jackson Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, while South Choctaw Academy put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Escambia Academy. The Rebels blew past the Cougars 17-0.
Like Jackson Academy, South Choctaw Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Cambrii Miranda. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Miranda was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.
In other batting news, South Choctaw Academy let Brooklyn Jimerson and Ava Adams run wild. Jimerson got on base in both of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Adams went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.
South Choctaw Academy now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Jackson Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
South Choctaw Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jackson Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. It's a different story for South Choctaw Academy, though, as they've only averaged .255. Will they be able to contain Jackson Academy's hitters?
