The Festus Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Windsor Owls at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Festus' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Windsor's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Windsor will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Festus extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Tigers walked away with a 5-0 win over Perryville.
Festus' victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brady Nolen, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. Cole Malusky also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Festus hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Windsor made sure to put some runs up on the board against Ritenour on Friday. The Owls put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 11-1 win. The Owls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.
Brody Green and Keegan Murphy were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Green tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Murphy struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Green scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Murphy scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Murphy has become a key player for Windsor: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, Cole Scott was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Windsor is undefeated when Scott posts one or more home runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Skyler Johnson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Windsor is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Festus, their win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3-1.
Festus beat Windsor 6-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
