After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Champion, the Brookfield Warriors were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They walked away with a 39-32 victory over Newton Falls. That's another feather in the cap for Brookfield, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading Brookfield to victory were Cailey Wellman and Mya Jumper. Wellman dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, while Jumper scored 17 points. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Wellman has scored at least 25% of Brookfield's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madisyn Fisher, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Brookfield's victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-7. As for Newton Falls, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brookfield will challenge Columbiana at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Columbiana is on a three-game streak of home wins, Brookfield a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Newton Falls, they will head out on the road to face off against Champion at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Champion focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
