Millard West scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 79-33 win over Buena Vista. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Millard West has managed all season.
Among those leading the charge was Carter LaBorde, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cooper Fortune, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Gretna waltzed into their game last Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They really took it to Omaha South for the full four quarters, racking up a 82-44 victory at home. The result was nothing new for Gretna, who have now won three matches by 22 points or more so far this season.
Gretna had a senior duo take command as Landon Pokorski scored 18 points along with nine assists and Alex Wilcoxson scored 16 points along with three steals. Pokorski has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Treven Wilkins, who scored 11 points.
Millard West is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Gretna, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Millard West have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 26.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Gretna, though, as they've been averaging only 26.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
