Miyamura is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Aztec is on a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Patriots will host the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Miyamura is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Miyamura came up short against Kirtland Central and fell 10-5.
Phillicity Nez was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Aztec made easy work of Shiprock on Tuesday and carried off a 20-2 win. Considering the Tigers have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Reagan Bradshaw was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). Bradshaw was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Cheyenne Yellow was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexyn Candelaria, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.
Aztec was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Aztec has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Miyamura, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
Miyamura's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Patriots have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Aztec, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Miyamura continue to outrun the ball?
Miyamura suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Aztec when the teams last played on Thursday. Will the Patriots have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
