The Lincoln Hornets put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 49-0 victory over University City. Fans of Lincoln have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lincoln to victory, but perhaps none more so than Akili Smith Jr., who threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes. Aden Jackson was in the mix too, providing Lincoln with two touchdowns.
Lincoln's victory was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 University City and 1-8 Wai'anae (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 42.7% over those games). As for University City, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lincoln will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Helix at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Helix knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Lincoln likes a good challenge. As for University City, they will stay at home for another week and welcome Madison at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Madison presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than University City in California (Madison is ranked 134th, while University City is ranked 364th).
