The Brown County Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 22 points or more this season. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 70-38 blowout they got on the road against Lewistown. Given Brown County's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Lewistown is ranked 336th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Lewistown still got an impressive performance from Landry Smith, who scored 16 points along with five assists. The game was Smith's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Makenna Johnson, who scored eight points.
Brown County is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. As for Lewistown, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
Brown County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Mendon Unity at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. Mendon Unity has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Lewistown, they will square off against Liberty at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Liberty is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
