AAA District 5 recap Oct. 9, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Ooltewah, who took down 48th ranked Bradley Central, 34-23.
Kelvin Wells Jr. of McMinn County ran for the longest rushing play in AAA District 5 this season against Cleveland last week. Wells Jr. scampered for 71 yards on the play and finished with 314 on the day as his team beat the Blue Raiders.
McMinn County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Trevor Crisp threw for 13 yards and Taurian Linder had 15 yards receiving. Wells Jr. helped McMinn County's passing attack out by catching one ball for 13 yards.
On the ground, Bo Cagle's team's Wells Jr. has rushed for 1052 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is C.j. Brown. The Soddy Daisy star has 25 catches for 364 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Walker Valley takes on the Bears. As it stands, the Mustangs are in third, while Bradley Central is in fifth.
Walker Valley moved up to 131 from 159 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAA District 5. Ted Lockerby's team climbed the ranks as a result of a 42-12 win over Soddy Daisy.
