Softball Recap: Lamar Sets Scoring Season-High Against Westside

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lamar). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Westside Wolves a 19-0 shutout on Thursday. With that win, the Texans brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Hailey Hernandez, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Margot Royston was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Hernandez wasn't the only one making solid contact: Lamar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for the Texans: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.2.

The victory made it two in a row for Lamar and bumps their season record up to 5-8. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-11 Westside and 2-5 Houston Math Science & Tech. As for Westside, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-11.
