Softball Recap: Central Wins Going Away Against Pensacola

Central was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Pensacola on Friday. Central put the hurt on Pensacola with a sharp 18-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Tenley Smarr made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Central got a massive performance out of Shelby Zigler, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Zigler has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times she's played. Addie Holland was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive contests.

Central's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Pensacola, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Central will square off against rival Jay at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Pensacola is set to challenge their familiar foe Choctawhatchee at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
