3A Region 3 recap October 8, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to McClain, who took down 220th ranked Humphreys County, 21-18. Andrakeious Johnson threw for 90 yards and ran for 85 yards in the win.
Jalen Thomas of East Side ran for the longest rushing play in 3A Region 3 this season against Leflore County last week. Thomas scampered for 61 yards on the play and finished with 193 on the day as his team beat the Tigers.
Laderick Tillman was the best wideout in the league this week as the Mustangs topped the Cowboys. Tillman tallied 1 reception for 42 yards. Brian Pernell helped McClain's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 32 yards.
Ruleville Central's Markevion Quinn and Anthony Spivey have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Quinn has thrown for 890 yards this season, while Spivey has 26 catches for 442 yards. Quadre Butler from East Side leads the league in rushing with 766 yards.
A big matchup in 3A Region 3 this week will be when Kendrick Woodard's team takes on McClain. The Trojans are currently in second, while Joshua Matthews' team is in third.
O'Bannon added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Tigers, 42-12. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
