It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the South Adams Starfires can now relate to. They fell 77-65 to the Wildcats on Friday. While losing is never fun, South Adams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while Whitko is ranked 98th).
South Adams lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Laney Trausch, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Macy Pries was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds.
Whitko's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayma Stonebraker, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stonebraker has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Reese Stonebraker, who scored 11 points along with eight assists and four steals.
South Adams has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season. As for Whitko, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-3.
South Adams does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Whitko, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Fort Wayne Bishop Luers at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully Fort Wayne Bishop Luers focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
