After flying high against Covington last Tuesday, Southmont came back down to earth. The Southmont Mounties took a 72-55 bruising from the Sheridan Blackhawks on Wednesday. The Mounties were not able to make up for their loss to the Blackhawks from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Sheridan had a senior duo take command as Kenzie Garner shot 5-for-9 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds and Cecilia Timme went 10 for 20 en route to 23 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. Those 23 points gave Timme a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brielle Garner, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 15 points and four steals.
Southmont's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-11. As for Sheridan, the win was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southmont will take on Lebanon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Southmont knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Lebanon likes a good challenge. As for Sheridan, they will square off against Taylor at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sheridan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59 points per game this season.
