Basketball Recap: Mishawaka Takes a Loss

Mishawaka was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 59-18 defeat at the hands of the Marquette Catholic Blazers. While losing is never fun, the Cavemen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while the Blazers are ranked 59th).

Mishawaka's loss came despite strong showings from Grace Matherly and Reese Brugh. Matherly posted ten points and five rebounds, while Brugh earned no points. Those ten points gave Matherly a new career-high.

Laniah Davis continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Marquette Catholic, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 17 boards. Davis has been hot recently, having also posted four or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Addison Penziol, who put up ten points and five steals.

The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 2-7. As for Marquette Catholic, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Mishawaka didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 71-20 defeat against Glenn on the 11th. As for Marquette Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 60-40 victory against South Bend St. Joseph on the 11th.
