The Roxana Shells will challenge the Williamsville Bullets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Roxana is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Roxana is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Litchfield 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Shells have posted since April 28th.
Mason Crump was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Nick Miles was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Dalton Carriker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs.
Williamsville couldn't beat Springfield on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Bullets fell 10-5 to Springfield.
Like Roxana, Williamsville also got a great game from a two-way player: Brenton Trickey. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. That's the fewest earned runs Trickey has allowed since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Roxana has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Williamsville, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 16-15.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Roxana has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Williamsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
