IV Section III recap Sept. 26, 2012
Mingus was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in IV Section III. Earlier in the week, the Marauders defeated Cortez 47-10.
Mingus extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Colts, 47-10. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Fountain Hills's dynamic duo of Justin Steuber and Andrew Capirchio proved tough for Canyon State Academy to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Steuber threw for 117 yards and two touchdowns and Capirchio had 91 yards receiving. Taylor Tackett helped Fountain Hills' passing attack out by catching four balls for 26 yards.
Brandon Long was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 311 yards on 35 carries as River Valley beat the Rams. Teammate Andreas Galvez added to the ground attack by rushing for 45 yards.
The Dust Devils' Derek Advocate and Matt Cronn have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading IV Section III in both passing and receiving yards. Advocate has thrown for 674 yards this season, while Cronn, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 16 catches for 435 yards. Jabril Taylor from Buckeye leads the league in rushing with 712 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Hawks take on Estrella Foothills. Buckeye is currently in second, while the Wolves are in fourth.
