Basketball Game Preview: Westland Cougars vs. Dublin Scioto Irish

Westland hasn't had much luck against Dublin Scioto recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Westland Cougars will be home for the holidays to greet the Dublin Scioto Irish at 7:30 p.m. Westland has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Having struggled with seven defeats in a row dating back to last season, Westland turned things around against Bowsher on Saturday. They took their game with ease, bagging an 84-32 win over the BlueRacers. The Cougars' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Westland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Phoenix Funderburke, who made all 10 shots he took to post 24 points along with eight steals and six assists. With that strong performance, Funderburke is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Breaker Heller Jr., who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 assists.

Funderburke wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Westland was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Dublin Scioto was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 66-53 to Worthington Kilbourne.

Westland's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Dublin Scioto, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
