The Cathedral Fighting Irish started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against the St. Michael's Horsemen. The match between the two teams wasn't particularly close, with the Fighting Irish falling 34-18. It was the first time this season that they let down their fans at home.
Even if they lost, Cathedral's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Leading the way was Emiliano Hernandez and his three sacks.
St. Michael's can attribute much of their success to Matthias Duran, who rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Duran was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 61 yards. Soren Annon was another key contributor, gaining 98 total yards and a touchdown.
Cathedral now has a losing record at 4-5. As for St. Michael's, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cathedral will take on Savio at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Savio will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for St. Michael's, they will head out on the road to face off against Santa Fe Indian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Fe Indian is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
