Softball Recap: Orestimba Wins Going Away Against Turlock

Orestimba won the last time they faced Turlock and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Warriors blew past the Bulldogs 11-1. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by nine runs or more this season.

Sam Mendoza made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Rocha, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Sophia Machado was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Orestimba kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Orestimba has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Turlock, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orestimba will head out to face off against Escalon at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Turlock, they will venture away from home to square off against Modesto at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
