Taylorsville and Cyprus are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Pirates at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Taylorsville will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Murray, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. The Warriors put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 15-7 win on Friday. Taylorsville's victory was all the more impressive since the Spartans were averaging only 3.31 runs allowed on the season.

Holden Cottle and Brex Romney did most of the damage at the plate: Cottle went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Romney went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Romney has become a key player for Taylorsville: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11 otherwise. Matt Smith also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Taylorsville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Cyprus entered their tilt with Kearns on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Cougars 11-1. 11 seems to be a good number for the Pirates as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Dj Oveson was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reiner Hidalgo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Densley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Taylorsville's record now sits at 7-12. As for Cyprus, their record is now 17-5.
Taylorsville might still be hurting after the 10-1 loss they got from Cyprus when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
