AAA District 11 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Independence was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in AAA District 11. Earlier in the week, the Eagles defeated Coffee County Central 42-6.
Brentwood extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Gallatin, 41-6. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Bruins.
Independence's dynamic duo of Chase Swayze and Vic Wharton III proved tough for the Red Raiders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Swayze threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns and Wharton III had 78 yards receiving. Cody Swayze helped Independence's passing attack out by catching two balls for 66 yards.
Ben Green was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 156 yards on 22 carries as Brentwood beat Coffee County Central. Anthony Caldwell also contributed to the rushing game with 56 yards on the ground.
Graham Warren made the biggest impact on defense this week as Franklin beat Smyrna. The 6-foot-1 senior recorded one fumble.
5-foot-11 quarterback Porter Streator of Hillsboro is the league leader in passing yards this season with 678. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, Mark Pemberton's team's Green has rushed for 682 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Andy Schumpert. The Brentwood star has 10 catches for 263 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Eagles take on the Burros. As it stands, Independence is in second, while Hillsboro is in third.
Centennial suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 35-21 loss to Wilson Central. The Cougars had been ranked 17th, but fell to 35 following the defeat.
