Even though the Houston Hurricanes have not done well against the Grand Meadow Superlarks recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Houston narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Grand Meadow 51-48. Houston's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Houston's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emily Botcher led the charge by scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds. Botcher continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Olivia Yohe was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Houston pushed their record up to 5-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Grand Meadow, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.
Houston will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Randolph at 3:00 p.m. on December 29th. Grand Meadow will be home for the holidays to greet Lanesboro at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lanesboro will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings (they are ranked 284th, while Grand Meadow is ranked 125th).
