Belfry extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday, bumping them up to 17-10. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Prestonsburg Blackcats, sneaking past 5-3. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Pirates also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2023.
Chase Varney and Zachary Fite were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Varney tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Fite pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. At bat, Varney went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Fite went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on David Michael Hagy, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Steven Vipperman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
Belfry hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Prestonsburg struck out eight times.
As for Prestonsburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-19-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered since April 18th.
On Prestonsburg's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Allen, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Allen has hit this season.
Belfry wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 3-2 defeat against Chapmanville Regional on the 7th. Prestonsburg has also already played their next matchup (against Morgan County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
